Questions people actually ask
- Why will my .vsdx file not open?
- Because .vsdx is Microsoft Visio's own format and Visio is a separate paid product — it is not part of a normal Office install, so Word, Excel and Preview all decline it. Dropping the file above reads it without installing anything.
- Can I open it on a Mac, iPad or Android?
- Yes. The file is read on our server and handed back as a drawing, so anything with a browser can display it. This matters most on macOS, where Microsoft has never shipped a Visio desktop app at all.
- Is it safe to put a client's file in here?
- The file is parsed in memory and dropped when the response is sent. Nothing is written to disk, no account is created, and no upload history exists to leak later.
- What about an older .vsd file?
- Not supported. .vsd is the pre-2013 binary format; this reads .vsdx, which is Visio 2013 and later. Opening the .vsd in Visio once and saving it as .vsdx is the only reliable route.
